For the first time, the compact MPV Audi A2 in the rank of AI2 prototype was presented by a German company in the fall of 1997 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Car production started in 1999 at the company's German plant, and it lasted until 2005, after which the model retired without acquiring a follower. During this time, the car sold around the world with a circulation of 176 thousand pieces.

To this day, the Audi A2 looks quite attractive, unusual and relevant. In its features, one can immediately trace belonging to this German brand, although it is devoid of presentability and is perceived as a small family car. "Two" has excellent aerodynamics, even with such a high body, which was achieved thanks to the development of a compact MPV through computer simulation.

Based on its belonging to the European class B, the Audi A2 has corresponding external dimensions. Machine length is 3826 mm, height - 1553 mm, width - 1673 mm, wheelbase - 2405 mm. But the ground clearance of the compact van is quite modest - only 110 mm.

A special feature of the "two" is that its body is made using ASF technology. The car frame is made of welded profiles and aluminum hinged panels, and aluminum alloys are widely used in the body itself. Thanks to this, the curb weight of the car is only 895-1030 kg, depending on the modification.

The interior of the Audi A2 has been designed to provide a comfortable seating position for the driver and passengers. Everything looks solid enough, and the interior design unambiguously reminds that you are sitting in Audi. Inside, everything is thought out and strictly, and the ergonomics are at a high level. One of the interesting solutions can be called the presence of two "dimensionless" cup holders that slide out from the top of the center console.

The compact MPV Audi A2, with its modest dimensions, has a fairly spacious interior. The front seats provide comfortable seating even for tall riders, since the adjustment ranges allow it. The rear sofa can accommodate three passengers, but two headrests and a high transmission tunnel hint that it is better to sit there together.

The luggage compartment of the "two" from Ingolstadt is roomy - 390 liters of usable volume. True, the wheel arches eat up a significant part of it. The rear seats fold down to provide a 1,085-liter compartment with a flat cargo area. But under the raised floor there is only a "stowaway".

Specifications. Five engines were offered for the Audi A2 - two petrol and three diesel. The petrol part consists of a 1.4-liter "four", giving out 75 horsepower and 126 Nm of torque limit, as well as a 1.6-liter unit with four in a row located cylinders, the output of which is 115 "horses" and 155 Nm. "Deuce" with gasoline engines requires an average of 5.9-6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
The most economical version is the Audi A2, equipped with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbodiesel with 61 horsepower (maximum torque 140 Nm). It is followed by a 1.4-liter diesel "turbo engine", developing 75 "horses" and 195 Nm of thrust. And the most powerful is the 1.4-liter engine, which produces 90 horsepower and 230 Nm. The trump card of diesel units is fuel efficiency. 3-4.3 liters of diesel fuel are enough for them to run 100 km.
All engines are combined with a 5-speed manual transmission and drive to the front axle, except for the version with a 61-horsepower engine - it relies on a 5-band "robot".

An independent spring suspension is installed on the front axle of the compact MPV Audi A2, and a dependent spring suspension on the rear axle. Ventilated disc brakes are hidden behind the front wheels, drum brakes behind the rear ones.

Prices. In Russia, the "two" from Ingolstadt did not find much popularity. In 2014, the first generation Audi A2 can be purchased at a price of 210,000 - 320,000 rubles, depending on the modification, configuration and year of manufacture.
