In November 2013, the fourth generation of the Subaru WRX sports sedan, which was previously known as the "Impreza", debuted in Los Angeles. The car acquired an even more dynamic exterior, got a stylish interior, and also got a high-spirited engine and a new manual gearbox ... This sports sedan arrived to Russia surprisingly quickly - in the spring of 2014 it appeared “on the shelves” of dealerships.

In January 2017, at the International North American Auto Show, the Japanese put on public display a restyled sports sedan - it slightly changed in appearance (with an eye on the "Impreza" of the fifth generation), received improved finishing materials and replenished the functionality with previously unavailable items.

However, more significant changes happened to the technical "stuffing", in particular, the suspension settings were changed for the car, a new power steering was separated (for the sake of controllability), and on the "mechanical" versions, the clarity of gear shifting was also improved.

The exterior of the Subaru WRX can be described as “moderately aggressive”. The huge "mouth" of the bumper, the "mouth" of the air intake on the hood, the predatory glance of lighting technology, "pumped up" muscles of the wheel arches, an impressive diffuser and four exhaust pipes - literally everything in the design of the car "screams" that this is not an ordinary sedan.

The length of the "charged" three-volume vehicle reaches 4595 mm, its wheelbase is 2650 mm, the width and height do not exceed 1795 mm and 1475 mm, respectively, and the ground clearance (clearance) is 135 mm. The curb weight of the machine ranges from 1465 to 1527 kg, depending on the level of equipment.

Concern Subaru was often criticized for the rather boring and monotonous interiors of its cars. Apparently the Japanese have finally listened to criticism and provided the Subaru WRX with a fairly modern and attractive interior with high ergonomics and a decent level of comfort, but ... for which - a "simple" (albeit extremely understandable) instrument cluster, but an unpretentious center console with a small "board" of the on-board computer at the very top, a multimedia complex screen and three "microclimate" controls.

In the front seats, the Subaru WRX has excellent seats with excellent lateral support, optimally rigid filling and electrically adjustable. The back is quite spacious by the standards of the "golf" -class, and the sofa has well-thought-out shapes.

The trunk of a "charged" four-door in a standard form is 460 liters of usable volume. The back of the "gallery" is folded in two sections of different sizes, flush with the floor, allowing you to transport "long" items. There is a dock in a niche under the raised floor.

Specifications. The Subaru WRX sports sedan is equipped with only one powerplant option. A 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine has been selected for this role. The power unit is completely made of aluminum, equipped with a direct fuel injection system, 16-valve DOHC timing mechanism, twin-scroll turbocharging and fully meets the requirements of the Euro-5 environmental standard.
The maximum engine power is declared by the manufacturer at 268 horsepower, which is achieved at 5600 rpm. At the same time, the peak torque falls at around 350 Nm, held in the range from 2400 to 5200 rpm.

The engine is aggregated either with a 6-speed "mechanics" in the base, or with an optional infinitely variable "CVT" Lineartronic CVT.

In the first case, the 4-generation Subaru WRX sports car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.0 seconds, while spending about 9.2 liters of gasoline for every 100 km of track in mixed driving mode. In the second case, the starting acceleration time will be 6.3 seconds, but the fuel consumption will be reduced to 8.6 liters. At the same time, the "maximum speed" of the car varies from 215 to 240 km / h, depending on the modification.

At the front, the Subaru WRX is equipped with an independent suspension on MacPherson struts, and at the rear, the sports car is supported by an independent multi-link suspension. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes. At the same time, ventilated 12.4-inch discs with double-piston reinforced calipers are used at the front, while the rear wheels got simple 11.3-inch discs with single-piston calipers.
The rack and pinion steering mechanism is assisted by an adaptive electric power steering, which more accurately adjusts the effort during sharp maneuvers.

Now a few words about all-wheel drive. Already in the database, the novelty receives the "familiar" Symmetrical AWD, which has separate versions for each of the gearboxes:

  • Paired with the "mechanics" is a modification with an interaxle differential equipped with a viscous coupling, thanks to which the thrust is distributed in a 50:50 ratio.
  • In the company with a "variator", a version with a planetary differential is offered, in which the thrust is distributed in a ratio of 45:55 in favor of the rear axle.

Options and prices. In 2016, the Subaru WRX sedan quietly left Russia, and at the beginning of 2017 it is offered only in the secondary market at a price of 1.2 million rubles.
Nominally, the car boasts: six airbags, ESP, ABS, leather interior, climate control, rear view camera, multimedia system, LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, heated and electric front seats, audio system and many other "goodies".
