SsangYong Rexton is a rear- or all-wheel drive "mid-size frame SUV", focused primarily on "successful middle-aged men" who are in no hurry, and in a car they value not only the comfort and "omnivorousness" of the chassis, but also good " off-road potential "...

The official premiere of the third generation "Rexton" (index "Y400") took place on March 30, 2017 at the Seoul International Motor Show, and its appearance was preceded by two concept cars: in the spring of 2013, the LIV-1 debuted in the same capital of South Korea, and in the fall of 2016, LIV-2 was presented in Paris ... And the Koreans themselves prefer to call it "the fourth" - which is not ambiguously evidenced by the "4G" in the model's name.

After the next "reincarnation", the SUV has radically changed externally and internally, retained the frame structure (but received lighter and stronger materials) and became much more modern.

The appearance of the "third" SsangYong Rexton is made in a rather conservative style - this approach is explained by the fact that the Koreans tried to create an aura of solidity around their flagship. "From the face" the car expresses self-confidence thanks to "complex" headlights connected by a chrome "bridge" and an impressive radiator grill, and from the rear it looks harmonious and modern, showing beautiful lights and a large tailgate.
In profile, the car is monumental and foldable, and is notable for the original "folds" on the sidewalls, large wheel arches that can accommodate "rollers" up to 20 inches in diameter, and a sill line that "takes off" to the rear.

In terms of dimensions, the 3rd generation Rexton is a typical SUV of the mid-size segment: it is 4850 mm long, the distance between the pairs of wheels is 2865 mm, and the width and height reach 1920 mm and 1800 mm, respectively.

The interior of SsangYong Rexton is decorated rather conservatively: on the center console there are many analog keys that control the “microclimate” and secondary functions, and on the “dashboard” there are classic analog dials. Although, there are enough modern technologies inside the SUV: a 9.2-inch screen of the multimedia complex flaunts on the dashboard, and another large 7-inch display is "inscribed" in the "toolbox" and displays data useful for the driver. Well, the "picture" is completed by a stylish multi-steering wheel with a raised rim.

The five-door interior is finished with exceptionally high-quality materials, and in the "top" versions the seats can be dressed in expensive Nappa leather.

The decoration of Rexton is strictly five-seater: passengers of the second row are offered a comfortable sofa and a truly royal space in all directions. The front riders are not deprived either - they are provided with seats with a well-thought-out profile, developed sidewalls and a wide range of adjustments.

How roomy the trunk of a Korean SUV is is still unknown. It is expected that the volume of the "hold" of the car will be at least no less than that of its predecessor (678 liters in standard condition).

Specifications. For the "third" SsangYong Rexton, two power units are announced to choose from (however, how agile and economical the car is is not yet reported):

  • The first option is a 2.0-liter GDI in-line petrol four with a turbocharger, 16 valves, variable valve timing and direct injection, producing 225 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. The 6-speed "automatic" Aisin works together with it.
  • An alternative is the 2.2-liter e-XDi turbo diesel with four "pots", 16-valve timing and Common Rail system, which has a capacity of 181 "mares" and 420 Nm of ultimate thrust. He was assigned in tandem a Mercedes 7-band "automatic" 7G-Tronic.

By default, "Rexton 3" is rear-wheel drive. As an option, an all-wheel drive 4Tronic transmission is offered for it with a rigidly started front axle and a reduction gear, which are activated using a "washer" located on the center console.

The base for the "third" SsangYong Rexton is a powerful spar frame - the engine (in the longitudinal direction) and the body, which is 81.7% high-strength steel, are attached to it. The suspension of all wheels of the SUV is independent: at the front - on double, transversely oriented levers, and at the rear - a multi-link structure ("in a circle" - with coil springs and anti-roll bars).
By default, the car "flaunts" a rack-and-pinion steering system with power steering and brake discs on all wheels (ventilated at the front) with ABS, EBD and other electronic gadgets.

Options and prices. In the Korean market, sales of the five-door will begin in May 2017 under the name SsangYong G4 Rexton, it will go abroad only by the end of the year, and in Russia it will not appear until the beginning of 2018. Official prices for the SUV have not yet been announced, but it is expected that the "base" will have to pay at least 35 thousand euros (~ 2.1 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
A wide range of equipment is provided for the "Korean": nine airbags, a multimedia complex, a dual-zone "climate", leather trim, panoramic cameras, monitoring of blind spots, an Infinity audio system, an electric drive of the fifth door, engine start from a button, an autobraking system and a huge number of others modern "chips".
