Mazda CX-30 is a front- or four-wheel drive SUV of the compact category, claiming the status of "family", which combines stylish design, minimalist interior with some claim to "premium", modern technical component and a bit of "driver's features" ... This crossover is aimed , first of all, for a young audience (including a family one, perhaps even with small children), who wants to buy a bright city car, but considers the Mazda3 hatchback not universal enough ...

The international premiere of the completely new compact SUV Mazda CX-30, built on the platform of the fourth generation Mazda 3 hatchback and located in the model range of the Japanese manufacturer in the niche between the CX-3 and CX-5, took place in March 2019 at the stands of the Geneva Motor Show, and after several months began selling it on the European market.

Remarkably, this SUV became the first car of the brand with which the Japanese stepped into the territory of two-digit indexes, since all previous models carried a single number in their name.

Exterior

Outside, the Mazda CX-30 is distinguished by an elegant, rather distinctive, well-knit and generally organic appearance, to which a lot of "off-road" elements made of unpainted plastic add a bit of brutality.

The front view of the five-door "flaunts" the predatory gaze of LED headlights, a "multifaceted" grille with a honeycomb pattern and an elegant bumper, and from the stern it attracts the eye with stylish two-section lights, a "complex" trunk lid and two "trunks" of the exhaust system integrated into the bumper.

From the side, the crossover demonstrates balanced, smooth and dynamic proportions with a long sloping bonnet, a heavily rolled back windshield and a slightly sloping roofline, which is given a certain solidity by "muscular" wheel arches, expressive curves on the sidewalls and a powerful rear roof pillar.

Dimensions and weight

In terms of its dimensions, the Mazda CX-30 fits into the parameters of the compact segment by European standards - the length, width and height of the SUV are 4395 mm, 1795 mm and 1540 mm, respectively. The gap between the wheelsets extends 2655 mm for the car, and under the bottom it has 175 mm ground clearance.

When equipped, the five-door weighs from 1347 to 1471 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

Inside, the Mazda CX-30 meets its abodes with a beautiful and stylish, yet minimalistic design, which is dominated by both flowing and recognizable bold lines.

The embossed multifunctional steering wheel with a three-spoke design, a modern and laconic instrument cluster, a massive front panel, in the center of which there is an 8.8-inch display (non-touchscreen) of the multimedia complex and an unpretentious "microclimate" unit, - the interior of the crossover not only looks soundly, but also differs a kind of "premium" bloom. Among other things, the five-door boasts impeccable ergonomics and good workmanship (as for the finishing materials).

Front riders in the Mazda CX-30 rely on seats with a pronounced side profile, fairly dense filling and a wide range of adjustments in several directions. On the second row there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest, its own ventilation deflectors and a normal supply of free space for two passengers (the three of them will be cramped here).

The compact SUV does not break practical records, but it has quite a good trunk: firstly, the compartment has a regular shape with walls lined with felt; secondly, it demonstrates a volume that is quite typical for the class - 430 liters in the normal position.

"Gallery" is folded in two parts in the ratio "60:40" into an almost flat area, which increases the capacity of the "hold" to 1406 liters.

Specifications

On the Russian market for the Mazda CX-30, only one gasoline unit is declared - this is a four-cylinder "aspirated" Skyactiv-G with a working volume of 2.0 liters with an in-line architecture, a direct fuel injection system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, generating 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 213 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.

As a standard, the crossover is equipped with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox and drive wheels of the front axle, but as an option it can be equipped with either a 6-band hydromechanical "automatic" or all-wheel drive transmission i-ACTIV AWD (only in combination with an automatic transmission) with a multi-disc a clutch that connects the rear wheels if necessary, and G-Vectoring Control technology, which controls the distribution of traction between the front and rear axles.

It should be noted that in Europe the car is also offered with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine Skyactiv-X (180 HP and 224 Nm), a 1.8-liter Skyactiv-D turbodiesel (116 HP and 280 Nm), as well as in “ mild hybrid "versions, equipped with either the aforementioned diesel unit or a 2.0-liter gasoline" aspirated "(122 hp and 213 Nm).

Design features

At the heart of the Mazda CX-30 is a "front-wheel drive" platform called the Skyactiv-Vehicle with a transversely located power plant and a monocoque body, abundant in high-strength steel grades.

On the front axle of the SUV, an independent suspension of the McPherson type is used, and on the rear there is a semi-independent system with a torsion beam ("in a circle" with passive shock absorbers and lateral stabilizers). The car is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an active electric booster, and all its wheels are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated at the front), supplemented by ABS, EBD, BA and other electronic "chips".
