Renault Sandero Stepway is a front-wheel drive cross-hatchback of the subcompact segment (aka "B-class" by European standards), in which such qualities as attractive design, good level of practicality and relatively affordable price coexist, and all this is also supported by solid ground clearance.

The target audience of the five-door car is not limited by any strict framework - it is suitable for active youth, couples, and elderly people ...

The world premiere of the second-generation "all-terrain" hatchback took place in September 2012 at the international Paris Motor Show, but then under the Dacia brand, in the Russian specification as Renault Sandero Stepway, it debuted in August 2014 at the stands of the motor show in Moscow.

In September 2016, at an exhibition in the capital of France, a restyled car (but again, like a Dacia) was presented to the public for the first time, and exactly two years later, a similar modernization overtook the car offered in Russia. During the renovation, the five-door was significantly "refreshed" from the outside due to new optics, radiator grill and bumpers, and also received minor changes inside.

Externally, the "second" Renault Sandero Stepway is definitely not to be confused with a conventional hatchback - the distinctive features of the "off-road vehicle" are a plastic body kit around the body, roof rails, increased ground clearance and 16-inch wheels.

Size and weight

The car is stretched in length by 4083 mm, and its width and height are 1757 mm and 1626 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the five-door is 2589 mm, and its ground clearance reaches 195 mm.

In equipped form, the "Frenchman" weighs from 1074 to 1149 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The interior of the second generation Renault Sandero Stepway was borrowed from the base model without any changes - quite attractive and modern design, normal (but with some nuances) ergonomics, frankly budget finishing materials and the presence of five seats with a minimum amount of additional amenities.

The standard and "all-terrain" hatchbacks are identical in terms of luggage transportation - the volume of the cargo compartment varies from 320 to 1200 liters, depending on the position of the back of the rear sofa.

Specifications

For the "second" Renault Sandero Stepway on the Russian market, there are three four-cylinder gasoline "aspirated" engines with distributed fuel injection, in-line layout and variable valve timing:

  • The base variant is a 1.6-liter 8-valve timing engine that generates 82 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 134 Nm of torque at 2800 rpm.
  • It is followed in the hierarchy by a 16-valve engine of the same volume, producing 102 hp. at 5750 rpm and 145 Nm of peak thrust at 3750 rpm.
  • At the top of the power line is a 1.6-liter unit with a 16-valve timing, producing 113 hp. at 5500 rpm and 152 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.

In tandem with an 82-horsepower engine, only a 5-speed "mechanics" works, while a 102-horsepower "four" is combined only with a 4-band "automatic", but a 113-horsepower "atmospheric" is relied on as a "manual" box for five gears, and a continuously variable X-Tronic variator.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

From standstill to 100 km / h, the cross-hatchback accelerates in 11.1-13.8 seconds, reaches a maximum of 160-172 km / h, and in the combined cycle, on average, consumes from 6.7 to 8.4 liters per “hundred”, depending on the version.

Design features

Structurally, Renault Sandero Stepway of the second generation repeats the basic "Sandero" - front-wheel drive architecture "M0" at the base, independent front and semi-independent rear suspension with anti-roll bars (MacPherson struts and a twisting beam, respectively), rack and pinion steering with hydraulic power steering, as well as brake system with ventilated discs in the front and drum units in the back.

Options and prices

In Russia, the "second" Renault Sandero Stepway 2021 model year is offered in four versions to choose from - Life, Drive, Life City and Drive City (and only the last two are equipped with an exclusively 113-horsepower engine paired with a variator).

A cross-hatchback in the basic configuration with an 82-horsepower engine costs at least 846,000 rubles, while the surcharge for a 113-horsepower unit is 40,000 rubles, and for a 102-horsepower four and a 4-speed automatic transmission - 70,000 rubles.

By default, it has to its credit: two airbags, 16-inch steel wheels, ABS, cruise control, air conditioning, electric and heated mirrors, multi-steering wheel, front power windows, heated front seats and some other options.

You cannot buy a car in the Drive version for less than 922,000 rubles (for 113- and 102-strong variants you will have to add the same 40,000 and 70,000 rubles, respectively), for the execution of Life City dealers ask at least 943,000 rubles, and the Drive City modification will cost in the amount of 1,019,000 rubles.

The most "stuffed" five-door has: four airbags, one-zone "climate", remote engine start, ESP, media system with a color screen, leather steering wheel, heated windshield and fog lights.
