The official premiere of JAC JS4, which is a redesigned version of the S4 SUV, took place at the end of June 2020 during a virtual presentation, and in the Celestial Empire the car debuted as a Jiayue X4 (while JS4 is already a more "global" name intended, including including, and for the Russian market).

The exterior of JAC JS4 is decorated in the new style of the Chinese company called "Global Design of JAC Passenger Car 3.0 Era", and I must say - the car looks beautiful, youthful, proportional and bold enough. The intricate front of the SUV is crowned with a dashingly divided head optics, a stylish radiator grill and a "figured" bumper with chrome "fangs", and its lean stern flaunts "boomerang" lanterns, connected by a horizontal bar, and a raised trunk lid.

In profile, the five-door boasts an elegant, balanced and dynamic appearance - a "flying" lower line of glass, tending towards the falling roof, expressive sidewalls with several embossings at once, rounded-square wheel arches, framed by unpainted plastic, and a darkened rear pillar, creating the effect of "floating »Roofs.

Size and weight

The JAC JS4 is 4410 mm long, and its width and height reach 1800 mm and 1660 mm, respectively. The wheelbase of the crossover is 2620 mm, and its ground clearance is 200 mm.

The curb weight of the car varies from 1325 to 1375 kg, depending on the version.

Interior

The interior of the compact SUV is tailored in full accordance with modern fashion trends and at the same time also looks attractive and mature - a relief multifunction steering wheel with a three-spoke rim flattened at the bottom, a virtual instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch display and a laconic center console with a protruding 10.25 media center touchscreen inches and two rows of auxiliary buttons.

But it should be noted that in the "base" the decoration is simpler - there will be an analog "toolkit" with a 3.5-inch display and not so "advanced" multimedia.

According to the passport, the JAC JS4 salon is designed to accommodate the driver and his four companions. The front riders are given ergonomic seats with a well-defined (at least visually) side profile and normal adjustment ranges. On the second row there is a comfortable three-seater sofa, an almost flat floor and the presence of such amenities as its own ventilation deflectors, USB connectors and a folding armrest with cup holders.

The trunk of the SUV is more than solid in volume - in its normal state it is capable of absorbing up to 520 liters of luggage. True, there are no hooks or nets, and the wheel arches protrude strongly inward.

"Gallery" folds in the ratio "60:40", which increases the cargo capacity up to 1050 liters, but in this case a flat floor is not obtained. In the niche under the raised floor there is a small "spare wheel" and the necessary minimum of tools.

Specifications

For JAC JS4, two four-cylinder in-line petrol engines are announced to choose from:

  • By default, the car is equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated unit with a distributed injection system, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, developing 118 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 3500-4500 rpm.
  • Alternatively, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with multipoint injection, 16-valve timing and phase shifters is offered, which generates 147 hp. at 5500 rpm and 210 Nm of peak thrust at 2000-4500 rpm.

Nominally, both engines are mated with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox and drive wheels of the front axle, but the "older" version can also work in tandem with a continuously variable variator.

Design features

The JAC JS4 is based on a front-wheel-drive architecture with a monocoque body, which is widely used in the power structure of high-strength steel grades.

The front suspension of the car is represented by an independent system with classic MacPherson struts, and the rear - by a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam (“in a circle” - with anti-roll bars).

The crossover has a rack and pinion steering and electric power steering in its arsenal. Both the front and rear of the five-door have disc brakes (but in the first case - with ventilation), working in conjunction with ABS and EBD.

Options and prices

In the Russian market, JAC JS4 should appear in the summer of 2021, closer to that moment they promise to announce the complete set with prices. It can be assumed that in Russia the cost of a car will start at ≈900-950 thousand rubles for the basic version. At the same time, in China, the crossover is offered at a price of 72,800 to 99,800 yuan (from ≈850 thousand to 1.11 million rubles).

  • The starting configuration of the five-door includes: two airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels, ABS, EBD, ESP, rear parking sensors, power windows for all doors, air conditioning, an audio system with four speakers and some other options.
  • The "top" version is much richer, and there are also: side airbags, an electric sunroof, a power luggage compartment door, full LED optics, one-zone climate control, heated front seats, a virtual instrument cluster, a media system with a 10.25-inch screen, cameras all-round view, "music" with six speakers, monitoring of blind spots and other "goodies".
